Grading events

The grading system is a structured way to assess a student's proficiency in various aspects of Taekwondo and to advance from one belt rank to another.  All pre-grade events take place on a Thursday and grading events on a Saturday.

2024 competition dates

Further competitions and more detailed information will be available closer to the dates of these Taekwondo competitions. Details of the rules are available to study in preparation.

Our dedicated team of instructors and organisers are committed to offering guidance and unwavering support to our students, igniting their inner potential and encouraging them to strive to be their very best.

Richard Monkcom

Head Instructor

Richard started his martial art career quite by accident, as an overweight and out of condition 40 year old. 

 

Now in his 24th year of training, he is a 4th degree back belt, qualified Instructor, umpire and referee, as well as advanced DBS checked and First aid qualified. He hopes to achieve his 5th degree next year.

 

When asked what motivates him to keep going he replied; "It has quite simply been one of the most fulfilling and enjoyable experiences and I would recommend it to everyone. Sharing knowledge and empowering our future generations to help mould a more peaceful world."

Helen Olive

Club Assistant

Helen has been training for over 15 years and has achieved a third degree black.

 

Able to teach both young students and adults, she is able to pass on her knowledge  and has great epathy.

Her children have both achieved degree grades.

Noura Abi El Hosn

Club Assistant and Welfare Officer

Noura is another power house and gives everything to her training. She has a background in child welfare as well as retraining in the last couple of years as a surveyor.

Due to her qualities and skills she is head of welfare and she is undoubtedly gifted with children. Noura assists in teaching and often helps our new students.

 

Noura and her daughter, Amar, have both achieved first degree black belts.

Louise Sara

Assistant Instructor

Louise started her martial arts journey after feeling the need to protect herself and has now achieved a second degree black belt. Her two children, Thomas and Jack, have both achieved first degree black belts.

Louise is a fully qualified instructor, always training hard and giving her all to her art; she is a role model to all.

Clifton Beard

Club Assistant

Clifton has been training for over 15 years and has achieved a Fourth degree black belt.

Cliff is an assistant instructor and is immensely knowledgable in all things Taekwondo. He regularly teaches in class and is able to pass on his extensive knowledge.

 

His son, Theo, who also trains at the club has achieved his second degree Black Belt.

Mark Oakley

Safeguard Officer

To date, we have not required the services of a safeguard. However, should such a need arise, we are pleased to announce that Mark (alongside Noura) is now qualified to fulfil this role.

 

Mark started his Taekwondo journey only a few years ago and has rapidly distinguished himself as a highly motivated and skilled student. His commitment to both pattern and sparring competitions will undoubtedly strengthen our team.

Sharon Petruv

Club Assistant & Head of Media and Marketing

Sharon started Taekwondo after her daughter, Eva, joined the club.

Another who is "always training and giving everything," Sharon has, along with Eva, achieved her first degree Black Belt.

Immensely organised, Sharon keeps everything behind the scenes running smoothly. She is an assistant instructor and shares her valuable knowledge with other students.

Eva Petruv

Club Assistant

Eva has been with our club for over six years now, she began her Taekwondo journey as a 10th Kup white belt alongside her mother. Since then, she has successfully achieved her First Degree Black Belt. She is currently working towards her Second Degree Black Belt, which she aims to attain next year.

 

As a young assistant instructor, Eva has demonstrated a remarkable ability to connect with our junior students. She provides guidance and support, enabling them to maximise their potential.
